Creating our kitchen nook goes down as one of my favorite projects ever. Maybe it's because of the time it took to put all the pieces together or maybe it was the grand finale project of refinishing my childhood table that made me so happy. There were quite a few steps in getting the nook to where it is today. For those of you that like a good makeover story, let me take you on this journey so you can see it right from the beginning. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe1Xt76t8Xx40bnXByHskpbRshe65fMz_5tumCbekQQ5CrXJ2P9TGDO0XNVXZZDm4weYkRwH4u0rXHNmKBqXjo6g5afWUmzsptVTYZxleWjHCIrwTRI_lOoUmp2PGUTzQH4JfYJkDI3WhG/s1600/unnamed-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe1Xt76t8Xx40bnXByHskpbRshe65fMz_5tumCbekQQ5CrXJ2P9TGDO0XNVXZZDm4weYkRwH4u0rXHNmKBqXjo6g5afWUmzsptVTYZxleWjHCIrwTRI_lOoUmp2PGUTzQH4JfYJkDI3WhG/s640/unnamed-2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We bought an old cape cod that was set up so that the the dining room room was smack in the middle of the house. The chandelier was centered perfectly in the middle of the ceiling - which meant you needed to walk around a table and chairs to get to the kitchen and the family room. The dining room is small so options were limited. If you look at the pictures below you can see how you have to work through this room to get to the others. I kept thinking to myself that this is not going to work for an active family and it just doesn't have a good everyday flow if we keep things as the house was intended. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wasn't keen on this as is, it just didn't make me happy. So we decided to create a nook that pushed everything against the wall under the window in order to create a nook. A dining place that sits out of the way. Fi<span style="text-align: center;">rst we needed to sand and stain the floors then paint the walls. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then we added cabinets.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXGKvVOBeJilzCm3FyGQNgg7fbGcCVCUl7rbBOn4x9U2TuFDHMPDypir8qHPq_DkHi_kvJVwuLxPMAK6A92vSv4WZRntYKaW4yzBUqZOOn28nRJAnihlpHUkQMHnpWw0vA5hyphenhyphenpiqXGdm67/s1600/unnamed-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXGKvVOBeJilzCm3FyGQNgg7fbGcCVCUl7rbBOn4x9U2TuFDHMPDypir8qHPq_DkHi_kvJVwuLxPMAK6A92vSv4WZRntYKaW4yzBUqZOOn28nRJAnihlpHUkQMHnpWw0vA5hyphenhyphenpiqXGdm67/s640/unnamed-6.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
In my search for a kitchen table, I realized that my parents had our original table from when we lived on Locksley Lane in their basement! It was an old Ethan Allen table, with lots of wonderful memories, that fit perfectly in my new little space. And it had a bench! Don't judge the stain on that table, I fix that later. :) A cushion on the bench under the window, chairs and a rug. BTW, we had those same little shutters in my kitchen on Locksley Lane...so for now, they are staying. An upper window treatment will be on its way.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIj17srg2KKprpzsId_swmE1IC2x-pkfRHOKuhe_ChkqYmNxzHubGOjWlA3jPWpnNIhixyLuUbb2_Zzq27XyNBmpJbkPovUf3U7FFQbCX-QYYSzlnUDDD9Wu7igrPbL2ipboDGcIXxfdwG/s1600/unnamed-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIj17srg2KKprpzsId_swmE1IC2x-pkfRHOKuhe_ChkqYmNxzHubGOjWlA3jPWpnNIhixyLuUbb2_Zzq27XyNBmpJbkPovUf3U7FFQbCX-QYYSzlnUDDD9Wu7igrPbL2ipboDGcIXxfdwG/s640/unnamed-7.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
You can see the room starting to take shape. The chandelier in the center of the ceiling needed to be moved. It was a battle to decide if the original chandelier should stay or go. I liked it, but it just wasn't big enough.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjURInHLNVjX6mnUbuvw9pkoDSzr3Uz2RxnTnvEjxl2wZiS3Mjha91Ae6wbAwJPQoUzprSgJwJyHN4uBqLXHzqS5mu_OYgX6O9HsY0ADf1WM3opzQkCw6IKWUJf1tF0CCdFgf77MdEAAzE7/s1600/unnamed-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjURInHLNVjX6mnUbuvw9pkoDSzr3Uz2RxnTnvEjxl2wZiS3Mjha91Ae6wbAwJPQoUzprSgJwJyHN4uBqLXHzqS5mu_OYgX6O9HsY0ADf1WM3opzQkCw6IKWUJf1tF0CCdFgf77MdEAAzE7/s640/unnamed-8.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And, I wanted something a bit more up to date. A friend of mine encouraged me to hang paper to replicate the size of what I was looking for. (Genius idea - after two chandelier failed attempts)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRMNaDHiNZ2RnEZTIVznBGOnpOrg3gHa4uc7W0PaK0YOYw5eC335pix6Q2wX2ckzeoX4u2vcj2B9mj8_AN2W4puuTVbCrStaYhl_2sFgsOgGaQLZ5_g2Ho8mtA8_zT9mJg6onQgMdR98uC/s1600/prelamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="810" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRMNaDHiNZ2RnEZTIVznBGOnpOrg3gHa4uc7W0PaK0YOYw5eC335pix6Q2wX2ckzeoX4u2vcj2B9mj8_AN2W4puuTVbCrStaYhl_2sFgsOgGaQLZ5_g2Ho8mtA8_zT9mJg6onQgMdR98uC/s640/prelamp.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8XfQPhyphenhyphen73JquEKn5pZekbqPEuiQe_BiC_Idy5XQaWYTORtoOqBGWfZJXSiYvaIpbJlzOF-CjktVmvY_cr5YQTO0RFzfoDUhy3NjMb4_U8ELa8cdKR5Zik7fimwIaPzxeTLp9wU81VUvWI/s1600/thumbnail.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="810" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8XfQPhyphenhyphen73JquEKn5pZekbqPEuiQe_BiC_Idy5XQaWYTORtoOqBGWfZJXSiYvaIpbJlzOF-CjktVmvY_cr5YQTO0RFzfoDUhy3NjMb4_U8ELa8cdKR5Zik7fimwIaPzxeTLp9wU81VUvWI/s640/thumbnail.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
Then I found a chandelier that kept to the original crystal idea, but was more up to date. Loving the chandelier, but the orange cherry stain on that table.....had to go. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

All in all, it was a total transformation. Moving everything over and re-centering the chandelier over the new center of the room, created a whole new space that works for us. Here is a look at how we walk through our dining room now. Much much better. Now when I walk into this room - I'm happy.<br />
<br />
Happy transformations!<br />

</div>
My friend asked me to "do something" with these chairs.... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAo6A3_bBgd5QfgekQ0AMrpcTcOnHCnWFNLke-N4IEJIYdx7_rU21eiFpBWPEqht3Hj1vdmGNvMMy5uoRa-IBa-FZ2MBh-234HhMBlwY8YupUiyI8P8J9MKHl3RgcSIVSCAPJZAq7Vs_-g/s1600/chair+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAo6A3_bBgd5QfgekQ0AMrpcTcOnHCnWFNLke-N4IEJIYdx7_rU21eiFpBWPEqht3Hj1vdmGNvMMy5uoRa-IBa-FZ2MBh-234HhMBlwY8YupUiyI8P8J9MKHl3RgcSIVSCAPJZAq7Vs_-g/s400/chair+1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like a lot of older and antique chairs, the dark brown wood just doesn't fit into our lives today. This must have been an awesome dining table in its day because the carvings and detail were pretty amazing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When working on older chairs, know that if they are mahogany, or if a deep stain was used, it will probably bleed through your chalk paint. It's a simple fix. Before painting or even trying to paint dark furniture like this, give it a quick spray of shellac. This will seal the stain and you can get on with your painting quickly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gnqmz3LA2fexVjcB67ZLZs8EQ9UZM1Cx1_baaUcIYO3ztYFeeOoNaTZSVipTNazBrw8EjvbnAHRCM_S-1bmpSjftozqkrWz6b0RGar5yOv62dZuIqsolmrFGZ0KuH-qsy_nNgB31S5BU/s1600/chair2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gnqmz3LA2fexVjcB67ZLZs8EQ9UZM1Cx1_baaUcIYO3ztYFeeOoNaTZSVipTNazBrw8EjvbnAHRCM_S-1bmpSjftozqkrWz6b0RGar5yOv62dZuIqsolmrFGZ0KuH-qsy_nNgB31S5BU/s400/chair2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started with an ivory color and then added touches of pinks and a very soft green. Gold paint and gilding wax gave it the glitz it needed to bring out the detailed carvings.</div>

A friend of mine had this little round table that she asked me to paint. I just loooove me a small round table! I think round tables break up a room and add so much character. This little table was chalk painted and was cute.....but with a few changes I knew she was going to be fabulous!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHip5dG2iErU1mBZ4KWnusCe1Af0yn_JGMT-OCK9qouYnnukKFIm5S6gxcpe4RtIHg36PeCIaCzIwq_IETOXWoYyhyphenhyphenJi9Tu_mxeGtlGQ_U-SA5yKZ-t2JslbwlwULIkmOFzKTg9w9Zx0nX/s1600/French1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHip5dG2iErU1mBZ4KWnusCe1Af0yn_JGMT-OCK9qouYnnukKFIm5S6gxcpe4RtIHg36PeCIaCzIwq_IETOXWoYyhyphenhyphenJi9Tu_mxeGtlGQ_U-SA5yKZ-t2JslbwlwULIkmOFzKTg9w9Zx0nX/s400/French1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
My friend's new color scheme incorporates lots of blues.... To start with, I painted this table in a rich navy. I used General Finishes Milk Paint for the first time and I have to say - I love the paint. It went on very smooth, had a wonderful texture and provided great coverage. I will definitely be using this again. And....it's cheaper than Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The original top was a plain white - but in order to be fabulous, we needed to add some real character (checks) and then some gold highlights.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I apologize that I don't have very many before and during pictures, but you can see the transformation from the picture at the top to the one here at the bottom. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PesMokhXSlNKi-sVyPZ_AOHT3VwMMoKPwY7C0AEq2WskO9lJtzyF4gNPBxFq2SE3kDCzReuSR1I3pJxsagSyNe0pUT_0m6P0ZZYRhwy36i0IWiaA8ikckMG3kDAaCRLetbOIuD8zyc2T/s1600/french4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="576" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PesMokhXSlNKi-sVyPZ_AOHT3VwMMoKPwY7C0AEq2WskO9lJtzyF4gNPBxFq2SE3kDCzReuSR1I3pJxsagSyNe0pUT_0m6P0ZZYRhwy36i0IWiaA8ikckMG3kDAaCRLetbOIuD8zyc2T/s400/french4.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
A nice semi-gloss finish and this pretty lady is ready for her new name. I've decide to call this one "Lady Sings The Blues". I think it's fitting. She went from cute....to fabulous in just a few days. <br />
<br />
Happy Painting! <br />

Somehow, it has worked and blended in our family background without much thought. Hubbie was adamant, that Nana Lucy (as I call the hutch) was staying put in all her mahogany/cherry stain splendor. I have wanted to paint her for years...but I was told that this was "off-limits" to my painting creativity. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-qXlzfO0ld2hxcjdZyefTgw_p9zl9ohX34glqwx2s7lP2qCFh8cjB7EUZ1RPEc6dV3JZpFtBypFxrDfVx3cRNTERkpy6K_euxEvClQmyizTLQqktUT9eVv3zf6j9dV7aDxhhmkUtKWJqK/s1600/lucy0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-qXlzfO0ld2hxcjdZyefTgw_p9zl9ohX34glqwx2s7lP2qCFh8cjB7EUZ1RPEc6dV3JZpFtBypFxrDfVx3cRNTERkpy6K_euxEvClQmyizTLQqktUT9eVv3zf6j9dV7aDxhhmkUtKWJqK/s400/lucy0.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Take a look at Nana. You all get what I'm talking about, right? We moved to a new home and the one thing that just didn't fit anywhere in the house was...Nana. So I begged and pleaded that I be allowed to do something with her or - she was going to have to go in our bedroom. (haha)<br />
<br />
So first things first. Off with the scrolled piece up top and off with the decorative detail on the glass.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR-yN_BxwdMre4sORkGbJImUy4zjOTQbsUZRqSVpQU1Ja2ayTkHVarfCacqS96B2zkfGwR4QkrBewkNPEwRoRJ1FJA9Z-jZV-IjUQ2xMjCq0ys1_iLhiObjThyphenhyphenn4V19W8HgTB25_71ppjt/s1600/lucy1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR-yN_BxwdMre4sORkGbJImUy4zjOTQbsUZRqSVpQU1Ja2ayTkHVarfCacqS96B2zkfGwR4QkrBewkNPEwRoRJ1FJA9Z-jZV-IjUQ2xMjCq0ys1_iLhiObjThyphenhyphenn4V19W8HgTB25_71ppjt/s400/lucy1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I painted the inside an ivory and the outside a duck egg. Still a bit plane, I added some cool rubber adhesives that look like wood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj71PQWobh_a9MQUorbU5uFfkh6TZda7VFMDc1ozRlogOklYMUfCbNxSu5nvmJ6w6OkDDpxczB1SFbDHFpu-cn7gt5_zyiuvUl2Xqy_-TsjhQyCuOwXWB0zZ87jPV_AsvtMnfZkjsAysLFs/s1600/lucy2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj71PQWobh_a9MQUorbU5uFfkh6TZda7VFMDc1ozRlogOklYMUfCbNxSu5nvmJ6w6OkDDpxczB1SFbDHFpu-cn7gt5_zyiuvUl2Xqy_-TsjhQyCuOwXWB0zZ87jPV_AsvtMnfZkjsAysLFs/s400/lucy2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These cool little rubber adhesives, break up the piece and add texture. The side pieces are wood molding that I cut and glued to the piece. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9E-Jg732T9QlUkJ_1khZvZ8faxvWmn5Y4629YiHmlx7dUBxi4Wh_-Mou7bL3lJ2gI6DMxeSb1XgbURAxmaIfSI40kQ-iXCbF2qnxhQ8z1P-8lzLBTi5f3Lq0JFoyeYL1DzJeYfXZNbHU0/s1600/lucy3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9E-Jg732T9QlUkJ_1khZvZ8faxvWmn5Y4629YiHmlx7dUBxi4Wh_-Mou7bL3lJ2gI6DMxeSb1XgbURAxmaIfSI40kQ-iXCbF2qnxhQ8z1P-8lzLBTi5f3Lq0JFoyeYL1DzJeYfXZNbHU0/s400/lucy3.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I distressed her and added both clear and dark wax. The dark wax, really darkened the color, which is what I wanted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFFW0IS97LT7DbTlAFLS-vPsN8pXpXOojBTWWdJfQJrc19D4b4-Ts2qc2B3DviO0D_VaJdnYS164kNRJBqEmIG9PtooHdEhJuiEitxclyHotjRhn60i8Ct5vapaIS1Mg0dpxXr1KnsGB-o/s1600/lucy4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="345" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFFW0IS97LT7DbTlAFLS-vPsN8pXpXOojBTWWdJfQJrc19D4b4-Ts2qc2B3DviO0D_VaJdnYS164kNRJBqEmIG9PtooHdEhJuiEitxclyHotjRhn60i8Ct5vapaIS1Mg0dpxXr1KnsGB-o/s400/lucy4.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With some McKenzie knobs, Nana has turned into my wine bar (please don't judge :). And now, I enjoy seeing her every day. </div>

We recently bought an old cape cod style home and were excited to do some renovations, bring it up to date and make it our own. We bought it knowing...that the house needed some Big Love in order to make it work for us.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Both of us love to cook and when we first saw the kitchen we were a little unsure of how we would turn this into something we loved. Neither of us had ever done a renovation before. Fortunately, we have some great friends who are experienced with this type of work and they were more than happy to walk us through the process and offer advice when we were... freaking out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd6rgBtOABNOS0FLHNGg4n4gn5Nfcjb3ro4BYCw2d_kk4IPQndu52wY7-xFFdrBj1ue7dPagfcY_vjJo6eZQtIC45JSO8xAu1bCtAurrtT2Hhw2-y4i0fsGhymoL25Vc1uQM9v38-DnYnG/s1600/old+kitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd6rgBtOABNOS0FLHNGg4n4gn5Nfcjb3ro4BYCw2d_kk4IPQndu52wY7-xFFdrBj1ue7dPagfcY_vjJo6eZQtIC45JSO8xAu1bCtAurrtT2Hhw2-y4i0fsGhymoL25Vc1uQM9v38-DnYnG/s1600/old+kitchen.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kitchen was very small and closed off to the rest of the house. So we decided to take out a wall between the kitchen and the dining room. Fingers crossed that there weren't any pipes behind them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgomxVc8fR6hEC2Kc9bK8dHZRjC-MfH0njRLHvksvry2nu0MLjoE7OLUnIUFTfy0tbJZHYiOKs_3AI6z2w_CDYOV2b4V5MZiwnZjrGRQ_rL6Yg5HfRH6WidaXEiPOqLo5V2T6tUJwso2eMM/s1600/image_03+10.21.28+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgomxVc8fR6hEC2Kc9bK8dHZRjC-MfH0njRLHvksvry2nu0MLjoE7OLUnIUFTfy0tbJZHYiOKs_3AI6z2w_CDYOV2b4V5MZiwnZjrGRQ_rL6Yg5HfRH6WidaXEiPOqLo5V2T6tUJwso2eMM/s1600/image_03+10.21.28+AM.jpg" /></a></div>
That would have been a major bummer.....and thankfully - there were none. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzde4BpqRXwBR-BO_mqMn77Lry3GOLDB77cBZx30y6vb6OtiSxGivKhXBwgpkCNkxxJ6wsfnOhI_LjmpTL73ihHDPylsBCRQvVaiAXlgEn-HuGmtJaUEGIezXESyl5s4-zBeElV2LdwQr8/s1600/image_04+10.21.28+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzde4BpqRXwBR-BO_mqMn77Lry3GOLDB77cBZx30y6vb6OtiSxGivKhXBwgpkCNkxxJ6wsfnOhI_LjmpTL73ihHDPylsBCRQvVaiAXlgEn-HuGmtJaUEGIezXESyl5s4-zBeElV2LdwQr8/s1600/image_04+10.21.28+AM.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seeing the open space was pretty exciting. But honestly....I was really thinking "dang....it's still going to be a very small kitchen." I never said anything to anyone but at this point I was kind of thinking... "uh oh.....what did we do buying such a small place that needs so much work?" Pressing onward, I was committed to the process and wasn't going to let negativity or lack of certainty bring me down.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It takes awhile to order cabinets so I picked out what I wanted and had them ordered as soon as we could map out the space we had available. I knew I wanted a white kitchen. With such a small space, I wanted the kitchen to look as open as possible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSxj-ksWMSZFVdJhM-OMakKK6e7R0CU8eH4MIJ2pRm9658khmvbe1Luu4jwUZTBN-aD955S4qkk19LXvXIoF_OcwqbrdPbBLmgtqKfjJEueFuimnAgMJBhnWC5_6Xnac7R8LETmzSVmYCm/s1600/shaker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSxj-ksWMSZFVdJhM-OMakKK6e7R0CU8eH4MIJ2pRm9658khmvbe1Luu4jwUZTBN-aD955S4qkk19LXvXIoF_OcwqbrdPbBLmgtqKfjJEueFuimnAgMJBhnWC5_6Xnac7R8LETmzSVmYCm/s1600/shaker.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose white shaker cabinets and white beveled subway tile. At this point, my husband is asking for cherry cabinets and tan or "green" counter tops (yup...he's the adventurous one). He thought the white would be too sterile and lack personality. Now, we used a white tile in our new master bath with black grout (I will show you that in another post) and thought that maybe a colored grout would soften things up a bit. We chose a color called "oyster gray" and really like how it turned out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been so busy these last few months working on lots and lots of fun things to show you. I needed a break to focus on a few other things and will begin to post as I complete each of my projects. <br />
<br />
With the weather getting warmer, I'm all about having pretty flowers around. They just make me feel good. You don't have to have a lot of them, just a couple, placed strategically so you can see them when you are out and about. <br />
<br />
You don't have to buy expensive pots either. You can buy inexpensive pots and then make them your own. Spring pots don't have to be boring......you can jazz them up!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKdgcwySOHNs8mluP92KZTGFjK5Q6JW4P6ovON58ZEEdmek5zOayGw2vaMaB9uNdS86XBopIyLuwdMf2nDKQe8K9Rhux78ARgdOHk1XAQF83JPXyHuOipadasEZlB9-ZpqmHcyjGAkxmmd/s1600/Spring.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKdgcwySOHNs8mluP92KZTGFjK5Q6JW4P6ovON58ZEEdmek5zOayGw2vaMaB9uNdS86XBopIyLuwdMf2nDKQe8K9Rhux78ARgdOHk1XAQF83JPXyHuOipadasEZlB9-ZpqmHcyjGAkxmmd/s640/Spring.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
This was a simple black pot that I spray painted with an all surface white paint and then added colors that would adhere and last outdoors. Look for paints in any hobby store marked for all surfaces.<br />
<br />
Then create away! This pot is so pretty it makes me smile every time I walk by. <br />
<br />
Happy planting!<br />

Have you ever looked at decorations but just can't find the right colors or pattern? Try painting ceramic plates. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ceramic plates are easy to paint, and you can be as creative as you want with them. Plates are a beautiful way to bring your kitchen to life. And, they make a huge statement in your every day decor. Your options are endless.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started with these two large ceramic plates and treated them with a good primer. Then.... based on the client instructions to "be creative" with pinks and yellows....I did just that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi52QlNnb8s2ws1W_2m51eRwKPoohguiwbS8Fsqh3ZDyDROKWPIxsOkvS8JvBJ_eKlcSYOs7-LygN609G9PBHInBm12bPoXSpanfotOpPIi6JDJeBAij2FSPb2_YWyv_D_uwFvU68Hu1ZDW/s1600/plate.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi52QlNnb8s2ws1W_2m51eRwKPoohguiwbS8Fsqh3ZDyDROKWPIxsOkvS8JvBJ_eKlcSYOs7-LygN609G9PBHInBm12bPoXSpanfotOpPIi6JDJeBAij2FSPb2_YWyv_D_uwFvU68Hu1ZDW/s640/plate.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">You can keep your design simple or go all out. Once painted, I sealed them with a polycrylic.</span></div>

Look how beautiful these plates are sitting on that precious table beside the water and their beautiful chairs? Don't you want to just sit there? I know I do.....all day long. And night too!<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a little paint and creativity, this plain little old white cabinet transformed itself into the cutest little pink fish cabinet!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje95LvGa6eShNQN08Dstns7C7Uq04CX_VZ2M86aGiHsBk2OLXkX22TRYZ8nyShmvJOcarKzq9UF8Hb5PIX3HT1SyCDFzNe9ZdCO1SekyvLG3mTywUrSc0MHp8tA4TToC-tqNyQQaxnR3Q5/s1600/pink8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje95LvGa6eShNQN08Dstns7C7Uq04CX_VZ2M86aGiHsBk2OLXkX22TRYZ8nyShmvJOcarKzq9UF8Hb5PIX3HT1SyCDFzNe9ZdCO1SekyvLG3mTywUrSc0MHp8tA4TToC-tqNyQQaxnR3Q5/s400/pink8.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A friend of mine had this little white chest sitting around. She asked me to do something Mackenzie-Child's like but asked that I use pinks and yellows. As I pushed for a little more direction, she said "I don't care, be creative." Sometimes that is a good thing and other times....that means I have to really think about a piece and think about where patterns and colors need to go. Mapping out a piece - especially when you have a lot going on is helpful. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_qrkRX-Rze_lUtiMXxXn-tS26UO67XX6X0KXWW0XSS2MRYmK8fk4umT0VJxqwTfxYVG1wnT3b9b3H5YQZyKd1U0-JrBdlWqGx69LYSq6wrD6MNqOjfFVD4nZ6PKH2fBr2kXG6NZfDe0EW/s1600/pink1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_qrkRX-Rze_lUtiMXxXn-tS26UO67XX6X0KXWW0XSS2MRYmK8fk4umT0VJxqwTfxYVG1wnT3b9b3H5YQZyKd1U0-JrBdlWqGx69LYSq6wrD6MNqOjfFVD4nZ6PKH2fBr2kXG6NZfDe0EW/s400/pink1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
After I painted this piece all white - I began painting checks on top. That was my focal point. Then I made sure the colors were working together and that my sizing was proportionate. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha8aqxn7tCModn-pho1wME0thruraehkPA6P3H0GhlyzEenRgWxBZo9Iabu9LynpT_7TQZMstLdcgv_2wf0zP_RL6DdzSlxzLixTISQLI6EYkWR3IfTv9YhSmCJnpivQqnlsu5ML1IZrYs/s1600/pink7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha8aqxn7tCModn-pho1wME0thruraehkPA6P3H0GhlyzEenRgWxBZo9Iabu9LynpT_7TQZMstLdcgv_2wf0zP_RL6DdzSlxzLixTISQLI6EYkWR3IfTv9YhSmCJnpivQqnlsu5ML1IZrYs/s400/pink7.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I started to map out the sides, drawers and other details. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDWmUB2BurDCfUIxTndOco6UyttzR4mA66BH5vt65HyOz9GMC8UVYdWiVm0sD8d8T0UEWskiYDkn1VrkSy5IKn3Mh_3R-35uoYVn5sAa4IgZ_4fAaJ63H3-33_OhwCldMAjSlUKZSk_qV7/s1600/pink2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDWmUB2BurDCfUIxTndOco6UyttzR4mA66BH5vt65HyOz9GMC8UVYdWiVm0sD8d8T0UEWskiYDkn1VrkSy5IKn3Mh_3R-35uoYVn5sAa4IgZ_4fAaJ63H3-33_OhwCldMAjSlUKZSk_qV7/s400/pink2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The piece really looked pretty even with its plain knobs.... but once the fish knobs were added - this went to a whole different level of cute!</div>

We took a little white chest from its plain old boring life and transformed it into a truly whimsical and fun piece of furniture. <br />
<br />
If you have a plain little white piece of furniture, don't be afraid to transform it. You'll be amazed at what you can do with it. <br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />

So my friend had this awesome old music chest. And it was as cute as can be, but no one in her family wanted it. It was brown and just kind of melted into the background when placed in a room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgputX1X5dP493WKebtrvBfqIDYc8sQI6P5VquvyX0sj-xNNK3FlkEBgWIsWPhswY6Bu7kcEFriaZIiylWp1YD5Yu4aUCiEKjT6UpTdVxEwYatK-_MjjswvRepsN1yep6myV02-DxiPrDWI/s1600/wine6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgputX1X5dP493WKebtrvBfqIDYc8sQI6P5VquvyX0sj-xNNK3FlkEBgWIsWPhswY6Bu7kcEFriaZIiylWp1YD5Yu4aUCiEKjT6UpTdVxEwYatK-_MjjswvRepsN1yep6myV02-DxiPrDWI/s640/wine6.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a piece like this, there are all kinds of choices you can make. But if you really want a "wow" piece, you do something fun with it. In this case we decided to "check and stripe it up". Starting with some muted checks on the side...(sprawled out on the floor...that's how i work) I begin to work on its transformation. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFXaWkDj0P4VBa5Fa7yWbgET1FdQkWkqvm14lw4eneaU4OdS1XrFGE_zJRAzz0v3eUZ6Qz_w3h5u29nkxkVUKvGkg92NpALicMC24yqRK-xW_VMOJ-UDAgUtcyxrYAfnpA2mYvxXblCwV/s1600/wine+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFXaWkDj0P4VBa5Fa7yWbgET1FdQkWkqvm14lw4eneaU4OdS1XrFGE_zJRAzz0v3eUZ6Qz_w3h5u29nkxkVUKvGkg92NpALicMC24yqRK-xW_VMOJ-UDAgUtcyxrYAfnpA2mYvxXblCwV/s640/wine+7.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And more checks...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFX8cZWLGuqc8eynotLbjKPOVkejioSHo82ORuLUkVGvfttJNhg6CEVYWYUZwwqCHsmBqwUje3ipkpAQkukd6u0KzBjAK-F-TfahSa0m9cX26ORKCTMDw_nLl_wW4CTEk0T-MbfBQOp3eW/s1600/wine8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFX8cZWLGuqc8eynotLbjKPOVkejioSHo82ORuLUkVGvfttJNhg6CEVYWYUZwwqCHsmBqwUje3ipkpAQkukd6u0KzBjAK-F-TfahSa0m9cX26ORKCTMDw_nLl_wW4CTEk0T-MbfBQOp3eW/s640/wine8.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then I try to work in colors that match my friends room and add the little details that make the piece pop. This piece took a lot of work, but really turned out fun and very funky. But it totally works!</div>

Ok....this chair doesn't look so great now right? My neighbor was going to throw away this chair. He thought it was ugly. But look at it - it has great bones! Great details, a cane back, cute curves...and so easy to re-do!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidAgk_0NG_x7XEGy-D8YAcVu2K_OB-pTBUzZpuhsl2H8zYEZNjpTRyIixPU4I-XuGXDQ9O0jTJEQmM2A5j2LzH9Tkz7FmdUpkJPiN_Z072FwA1ykxq4OhNN2Q2LXec-bvckvgvTKaKeo6-/s1600/chair1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidAgk_0NG_x7XEGy-D8YAcVu2K_OB-pTBUzZpuhsl2H8zYEZNjpTRyIixPU4I-XuGXDQ9O0jTJEQmM2A5j2LzH9Tkz7FmdUpkJPiN_Z072FwA1ykxq4OhNN2Q2LXec-bvckvgvTKaKeo6-/s400/chair1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
Now, you can take this chair to be professionally reupholstered and it would be beautiful. But, you can also re-do this yourself and have a great outcome. Don't be intimidated, just start taking it apart and save the material as your pattern. With the burgundy velvet off, look how great this chair looks. It actually looks so much better with the material off which is why you need to look at the form of an old chair and not the material. Now you can see the details and the wood and know that this has so much potential. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoruiJLVYOyQfrDyS8Gyk601Wg0BMzEDTl6lNMzPllv_HhXmbYaEYqQGMpOcWuZ8DBoqjBPgu7ikoLU6XsGNcvcNIbq2gqa-DmggPTwfdUaIo-UEwXkI9QboBSO-nQW2nH8g7_n3hi1nws/s1600/chair2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoruiJLVYOyQfrDyS8Gyk601Wg0BMzEDTl6lNMzPllv_HhXmbYaEYqQGMpOcWuZ8DBoqjBPgu7ikoLU6XsGNcvcNIbq2gqa-DmggPTwfdUaIo-UEwXkI9QboBSO-nQW2nH8g7_n3hi1nws/s400/chair2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With Annie Sloan chalk paint, you don't have to strip and sand the wood on finished furniture, which... would be kind of a pain. You just paint right on it - which makes this super easy. So I gave this a coat of Old White, which is a soft cream and then added some french linen. Nothing has to be perfect - unless you want it to be. I just swirl it around, wipe some off, add more back on, until it looks how I want it to look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioU5aiOrtcm_ZU8_9PIqWgvlcMSE-4nJnLtcjzibDPJL5oNd23lYgLX8N60IzDKZRlryzmUYlt5Hn5XZCzPMFihTNA3wae5g5yaJmKNzCyU9KsFaRIlR7NInN7eMMpmEMKVa5loj5P13n_/s1600/chair5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioU5aiOrtcm_ZU8_9PIqWgvlcMSE-4nJnLtcjzibDPJL5oNd23lYgLX8N60IzDKZRlryzmUYlt5Hn5XZCzPMFihTNA3wae5g5yaJmKNzCyU9KsFaRIlR7NInN7eMMpmEMKVa5loj5P13n_/s400/chair5.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I added some gold gilding to highlight and accent. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I originally thought I'd leave the cane brown, but ended up thinking it looked prettier painted. When painting cane, use a very little bit of paint on your brush and make sure no drips come through the back. <br />
<br />
People tell me all the time, "I could never do this....I'll mess it up." That's ok....I mess up all the time and sometimes, when you mess up - you get an even better result. Take this next step for instance... Since the chair pad had all these curves, I opted to get the removable pad, professionally done. I chose to do the chair portion - myself. This isn't hard to do, but you do have to pay attention - which on this chair - I did not. If you look closely at that right arm at the bottom, I cut the material too short (always go bigger first). And of course, I did not have any extra material. Knowing I could not leave the chair this like this (I'm a little OCD) I went out and bought some new fabric and used a different fabric on the bottom to go with the top cushion. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAMw4luJEe4qkUNdB-tPazg7v62dl-y6iqN9aI3GveH6wECFTyVWgwLAqgnYTHuHfNCS8PgDFlgzVK0ehAaukYhS5baK3d88zeOxKu3NUgiOj7EC_PVUmvobDr_ztw_clj7QsM2sWhStG5/s1600/chair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAMw4luJEe4qkUNdB-tPazg7v62dl-y6iqN9aI3GveH6wECFTyVWgwLAqgnYTHuHfNCS8PgDFlgzVK0ehAaukYhS5baK3d88zeOxKu3NUgiOj7EC_PVUmvobDr_ztw_clj7QsM2sWhStG5/s400/chair.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found a beautiful new material that worked out great. Truth be told, I actually like the two different patterns together better and the chair took on a new personality with the difference.</div>

How fun is this? So don't be afraid to try something for fear of messing up. If you mess up, try something else. :)<br />

I love my new little chair. It makes me happy! <br />
<br />
Do you have an old chair sitting around....give it a makeover. It's easy. <br />

After seeing a sweet little table I did for a friend, my daughter asked me to paint an end table for her that looked like a Mackenzie-Child's piece. She had a sentimental end table of my grandfather's and with the cute little lines I thought this would be perfect. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEienypFWX0z8REBe4phDD9lZ2zVtDSC1InPkg_4b6ByCZc-NolZz1W0ECdy-OG1tza4sZ5Ab3HKkCRYlf2ai45S2-FKADyMhjBMgVqZY2DE7nwGfOL7uovos6VHQO4zo3vBUsmgpqbskBKf/s1600/tmc1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEienypFWX0z8REBe4phDD9lZ2zVtDSC1InPkg_4b6ByCZc-NolZz1W0ECdy-OG1tza4sZ5Ab3HKkCRYlf2ai45S2-FKADyMhjBMgVqZY2DE7nwGfOL7uovos6VHQO4zo3vBUsmgpqbskBKf/s400/tmc1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was my original inspiration.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPYYyB5jOqjf85WplYPs8tV1cn5XEtfK-Nx1aIx2X8GlNyvL0NLbzbijNODte7_Q3CmZWRIlG8gN31abzxcDOYvblPqTdvlayj1OUPrpwo1-LtOR4C_s83ZSa0HbX0asaJb_1WAmS0KE6s/s1600/mc4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPYYyB5jOqjf85WplYPs8tV1cn5XEtfK-Nx1aIx2X8GlNyvL0NLbzbijNODte7_Q3CmZWRIlG8gN31abzxcDOYvblPqTdvlayj1OUPrpwo1-LtOR4C_s83ZSa0HbX0asaJb_1WAmS0KE6s/s400/mc4.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: center;">The black and white stripes gave it an immediate "wow" factor and the more I worked on this, the more fun I had with it. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHPe7vD40DNmY7yZv_azR02oA3yRClBuB32D3KBl3yt-nGHh_2LGYd41SpI0I74CL6EcWoaawdgL5QUecSO1dfSxFBPPiuYMFfO_zanC6gw86e3t_JTQrHDPk2gIWviWdwfKGzJvkiH-_r/s1600/tmc3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHPe7vD40DNmY7yZv_azR02oA3yRClBuB32D3KBl3yt-nGHh_2LGYd41SpI0I74CL6EcWoaawdgL5QUecSO1dfSxFBPPiuYMFfO_zanC6gw86e3t_JTQrHDPk2gIWviWdwfKGzJvkiH-_r/s400/tmc3.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I worked on checking the back legs and then adding some stripes and color. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz6rNBxbIvm1vB_S6n1jd-tJJ_Q4xm-xunIMFDd3tx89Bx6aeaPGEH1tnW1KDEkawNkcTIn-oogZq_gIef8SM__MVhLgnpWCC0LmisjnA8ZRFS3OAECtiVoMvBLurVk1iAQEcwA4xC8mHB/s1600/tmc4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz6rNBxbIvm1vB_S6n1jd-tJJ_Q4xm-xunIMFDd3tx89Bx6aeaPGEH1tnW1KDEkawNkcTIn-oogZq_gIef8SM__MVhLgnpWCC0LmisjnA8ZRFS3OAECtiVoMvBLurVk1iAQEcwA4xC8mHB/s400/tmc4.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The inspiration piece I used had a crackled front and I wanted to do the same. I created this crackle look using regular craft glue. Yep, regular old Elmer's will work. </div>

Remember, if you find things you like, but the colors don't work for you....you can always paint them. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was the first few pieces of furniture my husband and I bought when we were married. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uKNhh74zElNDKF-mT0bZvGcYavaK26bPjQxqEvt0bOoYejNjTdx4LI4A5O4WqZ4i7rYxg_Jp9SebFz6EyRPY0ErOA0VLOAQ3o_r4A4lQdzbWydJr-_8cGcsDpuSjwi6xbollyj8cLTRJ/s1600/IMG_5510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uKNhh74zElNDKF-mT0bZvGcYavaK26bPjQxqEvt0bOoYejNjTdx4LI4A5O4WqZ4i7rYxg_Jp9SebFz6EyRPY0ErOA0VLOAQ3o_r4A4lQdzbWydJr-_8cGcsDpuSjwi6xbollyj8cLTRJ/s400/IMG_5510.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
I painted the table in a cocoa color with cream chairs and a cocoa wash. I finished it with some gold gilding around the edges. You can see the whole post <a href="http://locksleylane.blogspot.com/2016/06/new-look-on-old-dining-room-set.html#links" target="_blank">here.</a> It came out super pretty but the chair pads needed a makeover of their own. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO2OICdOvQ89qEnrnwXMtdPm3_ugEyxBF6lwAb6qaId46oDDK6bWMRHSUNffzCLYferc10YeaeLppQbg6n9SQ304QoffHP55NOZDnjmSmXZBxzfDQBghJMob5cKAX321XaetNhQC-wB4hX/s1600/coco2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO2OICdOvQ89qEnrnwXMtdPm3_ugEyxBF6lwAb6qaId46oDDK6bWMRHSUNffzCLYferc10YeaeLppQbg6n9SQ304QoffHP55NOZDnjmSmXZBxzfDQBghJMob5cKAX321XaetNhQC-wB4hX/s400/coco2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to my super talented home design friend, I picked out a beautiful cream and taupe pattern that goes perfectly while adding texture and sophistication to the room. All chair pads unscrew from underneath and you can use the old fabric as your pattern on your new fabric. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I want you to know, you can paint almost anything you have at home and make it beautiful. So don't throw away those old brass lamps!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvdfRPkoKmVuk8gaPJ4DImK5F4FN7c35VGOzlq-ple1k7tVr7XNMR9FNjMG83wBADkHRyzjgptAjvzRY_cyrV6J_nvl4zK8kXA7UaSZiyIpEQPSpPid4MRb4miQ-jrK9nUChwFAEbjRd7E/s1600/Chand+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvdfRPkoKmVuk8gaPJ4DImK5F4FN7c35VGOzlq-ple1k7tVr7XNMR9FNjMG83wBADkHRyzjgptAjvzRY_cyrV6J_nvl4zK8kXA7UaSZiyIpEQPSpPid4MRb4miQ-jrK9nUChwFAEbjRd7E/s400/Chand+1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I painted this using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - which you don't have to use...but because this is a paint that adheres without priming, it was my paint of choice. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6st58_R9cjAfHK2X9_n9gI3rLIyPhel9K21gDRruxtEjQz-yRsCCkrNIekJcc66HF9_JsgTEyGmoAmVPPP5yyNgMnjBA135RQf0Z0MuFOnA6wsa1Bp1KNWFdbvqYoUC1SSG1_LDi4w68i/s1600/chand+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6st58_R9cjAfHK2X9_n9gI3rLIyPhel9K21gDRruxtEjQz-yRsCCkrNIekJcc66HF9_JsgTEyGmoAmVPPP5yyNgMnjBA135RQf0Z0MuFOnA6wsa1Bp1KNWFdbvqYoUC1SSG1_LDi4w68i/s400/chand+2.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I painted this a french linen with some old white added to it. Then I used some clear and dark wax.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSvTTlFIwA9ulUdfm7yM_pjhZhsF5c2egvDO4GVHECb5n8gB31hZ0ULxo86k5j6vTZh6IpDv5ggf3SlDYeYo51mhbDG21YtklzIpJWGvYDFuaJPNmJ9anUooIA1tmLwd7Ok3eMwgUkeaj/s1600/chand+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSvTTlFIwA9ulUdfm7yM_pjhZhsF5c2egvDO4GVHECb5n8gB31hZ0ULxo86k5j6vTZh6IpDv5ggf3SlDYeYo51mhbDG21YtklzIpJWGvYDFuaJPNmJ9anUooIA1tmLwd7Ok3eMwgUkeaj/s400/chand+3.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The end result is a very soft lamp with a warm look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was the lamp drying in a corner of my house, but I'm sure it is going to look great above the dining room. It almost looks and has the texture of wood. Pretty!</div>

You can see the whole post <a href="http://locksleylane.blogspot.com/search?q=alice+in+wonderland#.V9GN7WVNqRs" target="_blank">right here.</a> Several of you have reminded me that I have not posted the completed chest with the new knobs. You are correct....so here you go! Here is the completely finished piece. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXur5Gt3t6ByVrJ1bCgvmqIGGNFnCm3-GAx4VHWxcOLvp6U_e3OMF6K26vPRNxAnZDBXYjH79tt0RnsBMK5j7eXAbq2k9Gjbzdo8iMydd520TWbxV5L-JqdlOlrS5XyQx3oE6f2R4Umn3w/s1600/alice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXur5Gt3t6ByVrJ1bCgvmqIGGNFnCm3-GAx4VHWxcOLvp6U_e3OMF6K26vPRNxAnZDBXYjH79tt0RnsBMK5j7eXAbq2k9Gjbzdo8iMydd520TWbxV5L-JqdlOlrS5XyQx3oE6f2R4Umn3w/s640/alice.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Didn't she turn out great? This has to be one of my all time favorite pieces. This chest sits with a view of a fabulous lake behind it in SC. The fish knobs are just perfect!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm working on a few more Mackenzie-Child's inspired pieces that I will be posting soon. I hope you are eating lots of apple pie and enjoying this fabulous fall weather!<br />

</div>
I have had this old dining room set for almost 30 years. It was one of the first pieces of furniture my husband and I bought when we first married. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK0dh7Qk2HcYmvSbryUkHtI6ErgyxMx_2iVewoI1L-HYFQvShXrArxw4dcOly4mM2y62t38atGKRq1lwMRmamzHpckcUnJfjX2UeTQG-9G1ygszpaepTej_c21CfNB0Cw5Pk7xJqIf7urR/s1600/IMG_5430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK0dh7Qk2HcYmvSbryUkHtI6ErgyxMx_2iVewoI1L-HYFQvShXrArxw4dcOly4mM2y62t38atGKRq1lwMRmamzHpckcUnJfjX2UeTQG-9G1ygszpaepTej_c21CfNB0Cw5Pk7xJqIf7urR/s400/IMG_5430.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
I've kept it for years and since we are in a home transition, it is now our go to eating table. But ya know.....it just doesn't fit and hasn't fit....with where we are today. So why not paint it? Right? Paint can pretty much transform anything and you don't have to be afraid of it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9nICQi9QBUTPFiDaoYlTt_46W04fkYTHCARCDKdTJkolyP7CLtmsLw7l9STkNqoLzkV9_ecoBHOqhmxb4sma5zJOAF7bjL32Yzgc8SjVcq7Dxt9-TQWdYw0BpBoQVtqBFgeWBLdfmQVx8/s1600/IMG_5438.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9nICQi9QBUTPFiDaoYlTt_46W04fkYTHCARCDKdTJkolyP7CLtmsLw7l9STkNqoLzkV9_ecoBHOqhmxb4sma5zJOAF7bjL32Yzgc8SjVcq7Dxt9-TQWdYw0BpBoQVtqBFgeWBLdfmQVx8/s400/IMG_5438.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I sort of had a plan (haha sometimes I change as I go). I love the coco color from Annie Sloan. It's probably the closest color with brown tones in it and reminds me of hot chocolate. I gave my table a little "scuff" with sandpaper only because my finish was so slick and shiny. A little scuff will allow the paint to adhere better. Don't worry about complete coverage your first time through. Just make sure you go from left to right and make a complete swipe from end to end on your last paint stroke. This will help minimize your brush strokes in the middle of the table. Then let the paint self level. Let it dry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGCnl5jzFjQz6VyFrJe1VEFG_eNUlJwfyvxTK0woxhtmG6p31Wn1HeQ_Vn2TH5x6IIad7xXA6p4oqxYl-ovJq4m6y9tmT7SNDX79bkS3fhFNu9Y0UqAompWtq-kOXerAjszwcLCWTTx_o4/s1600/IMG_5441.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGCnl5jzFjQz6VyFrJe1VEFG_eNUlJwfyvxTK0woxhtmG6p31Wn1HeQ_Vn2TH5x6IIad7xXA6p4oqxYl-ovJq4m6y9tmT7SNDX79bkS3fhFNu9Y0UqAompWtq-kOXerAjszwcLCWTTx_o4/s400/IMG_5441.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now, if you have a leaf or extra part to your table....now is the time to pull that out, put it in and paint your whole table at one time. Do not try to do this later...... :(</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I painted the chairs a mixture of half pure white and half old white. It's a pretty white without too much ivory. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgbyjrhnORj22KTNTIznGW6pMQPnXk66_NOhtjNlY3uuRS1Af17aGsG8WDMN8sKfQc3h5TnSTXKFgEBfDIc3J3TqBxBQe0gWagnulXK_eMRsAuhaxiObcNVIrhyphenhyphenctN3m_HL_2-wTxCkrCD/s1600/IMG_5517.PNG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgbyjrhnORj22KTNTIznGW6pMQPnXk66_NOhtjNlY3uuRS1Af17aGsG8WDMN8sKfQc3h5TnSTXKFgEBfDIc3J3TqBxBQe0gWagnulXK_eMRsAuhaxiObcNVIrhyphenhyphenctN3m_HL_2-wTxCkrCD/s400/IMG_5517.PNG.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But when I put the chairs next to the table, they were too.....plain for me. I like a little "sprinkles" with my neutrals (you know a little extra something). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf2S2BSA2V8nvMhU85LDUWGZMo_LCD8iFfwROA27i9pr-JiS2Sdws-ndVYFkC6XrWiN9uqItc9VzU3lj9RDSzDlt7DmkcEWfCfhjL_TabzbO1OIWamX9GBvKMmhl_J3WdkuYVx0eEcVoFE/s1600/IMG_5489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf2S2BSA2V8nvMhU85LDUWGZMo_LCD8iFfwROA27i9pr-JiS2Sdws-ndVYFkC6XrWiN9uqItc9VzU3lj9RDSzDlt7DmkcEWfCfhjL_TabzbO1OIWamX9GBvKMmhl_J3WdkuYVx0eEcVoFE/s400/IMG_5489.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I did a coco wash and put this on the chairs over the white. It brought the chairs to life and gave them a warm feel to match the coco table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuBzxnVNinfEaJ9OWYkAfgPxTaDZwXT0sLYIIBYB7fjzFG0W-sQg5e-2Z3AR8kp29L4mL1TgcWx_lal_ZIRxJ3B2cBEnXu5AdAIoz3BM4G9wlHXWz96QOATc_PWVEUJY3HYiCw_5ivd5DK/s1600/IMG_5481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuBzxnVNinfEaJ9OWYkAfgPxTaDZwXT0sLYIIBYB7fjzFG0W-sQg5e-2Z3AR8kp29L4mL1TgcWx_lal_ZIRxJ3B2cBEnXu5AdAIoz3BM4G9wlHXWz96QOATc_PWVEUJY3HYiCw_5ivd5DK/s400/IMG_5481.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also thought the table was a little plain, so I added an outline with gold gilding wax. This is such an easy thing to do and it added just the right little bit of umph!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7kEy_zL_M_MlxvkoSgcXk_zLD1R83fe640viqofryHOKSu4oJ-uggndrwPGuxoQzdYJnh3TP5_qNMOvT3D1-0iQPA0Ly69pQh8ONc7c02n1bMB8DjNH6vP53NdG5RnwV1ZuStyIVo94J/s1600/IMG_5498.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7kEy_zL_M_MlxvkoSgcXk_zLD1R83fe640viqofryHOKSu4oJ-uggndrwPGuxoQzdYJnh3TP5_qNMOvT3D1-0iQPA0Ly69pQh8ONc7c02n1bMB8DjNH6vP53NdG5RnwV1ZuStyIVo94J/s400/IMG_5498.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As much as I love Annie Sloan paint, I am not a fan of the wax on large surfaces. That's ok... You don't have to wax. You can put a water based polycrylic over this and it will be beautiful! That's what I did. I got a clean smooth finish on a table that will see lots of grease and food and the finish makes me happy. That's what's important. YOU have to like it. If you don't like a wax finish, you have options. ;) I did wax the chairs as I like a waxed chair finish. Just not large surfaces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDdyitrsXJD23nFln87CmpO9TNVMcWlWGD3NvmezYAtMHzSa94y7ZFxaN5jVgBF6YzFTLiiIM5QAtZC84ebRp5J6wMpO46gvq0KU8JmK-oH0-5Rs2gWeXA_JkLRvPb_tJitRDy7Q-sd7WX/s1600/IMG_5510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDdyitrsXJD23nFln87CmpO9TNVMcWlWGD3NvmezYAtMHzSa94y7ZFxaN5jVgBF6YzFTLiiIM5QAtZC84ebRp5J6wMpO46gvq0KU8JmK-oH0-5Rs2gWeXA_JkLRvPb_tJitRDy7Q-sd7WX/s400/IMG_5510.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's so pretty and works so much better in our little space that I can't believe I waited so long to do this. Next, I will be covering the chair pads.... stay tuned. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Don't be afraid to tackle what you think is a big job. This was so much easier than you might think. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great week.</div>

Thank you to those that have sent emails asking where I am and if everything is ok. Everything is great! Back to some new projects. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had two of these pots sitting at my mom's house for awhile. I got them at Lowe's years ago. They are heavy and made out of clay. I was looking at them one day and thought they could be so much cuter with a little paint :). Why not right? We paint everything else......When painting pots you need to make sure you get a paint that will adhere. Sometimes you have to do a little test patch. Not fun, but it will save you time in the long run. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifHBXGwjnst0cuPNQSTcJdxNKro3JTozATPJDGqvgbcv8oq8yWG-vfroNVmlqjzMtPRS5ar57Hwe9oyLGez5G2g7n0IczE_swBWqeHusqzNY7SW2F_yz6oJvkBYBDAPM9Ig6Vd_fHKbpHa/s1600/IMG_5284.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifHBXGwjnst0cuPNQSTcJdxNKro3JTozATPJDGqvgbcv8oq8yWG-vfroNVmlqjzMtPRS5ar57Hwe9oyLGez5G2g7n0IczE_swBWqeHusqzNY7SW2F_yz6oJvkBYBDAPM9Ig6Vd_fHKbpHa/s400/IMG_5284.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went to Michaels and found a paint that would stick to all types of surfaces including clay. It's a Folk Art brand. I painted these all over with a shiny black so my accent colors would pop.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vYLbOU75kjDPus2y0KZSUvKmo2_ZhYSPyp6hz0iwD55g2P_qsBJ_oR_0E2ekCdpY-NgMdE30LORSyaIJV8vmquov6hzu0RiYEO3lfw4oQEPL2v_f2BAJJxeWqnNuHJI7ELdTa8xtwd-d/s1600/IMG_5287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vYLbOU75kjDPus2y0KZSUvKmo2_ZhYSPyp6hz0iwD55g2P_qsBJ_oR_0E2ekCdpY-NgMdE30LORSyaIJV8vmquov6hzu0RiYEO3lfw4oQEPL2v_f2BAJJxeWqnNuHJI7ELdTa8xtwd-d/s400/IMG_5287.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once completed, I gave these a good spray with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane so that they can be protected in the sunlight.</div>

They make me happy when I pull in the driveway. So go ahead and paint some pots. Add some "sprinkles" to your yard. </div>

I found these pears at a hobby store the other day. They looked so real. I was going to put them in a glass bowl for color but then I looked over at some things I was finishing up and saw some gold accent paint. Hmmm....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ok peeps! It's not too early to start painting Easter eggs. Easter is a ways away...but if you want to paint some eggs or give them out as gifts, then now is the time to head to your craft store. <br />
<br />
Eggs are easy to paint and so pretty when they are personalized to match your favorite decor themes. Get creative and have fun. Now is the time. :)<br />
<br />
And for all you perfectionists...I know my dots are smudgy on the black egg. I put the eggs in the basket before my dots were dry :)<br />
<br />
Happy Thursday!<br />

For most of you....the answer may be never. But if you like bananas.....this pie is pretty much the bomb. And the best part....is that it is super easy to make. One pan, one pre-made pie crust....It can't get any easier.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj53HT4vZZV2F3YOwLtrPKHrCQbTaC3zFbrrhszy-OOpVyE90Ki9Jz06okHGYAlZcyRD4CwHiO-iFEWBABtnch6UQTNTnOcLwNJGgSCxVMac6rPrO99Av0WTneW1K5ISE-WTicCvd2MnkQj/s1600/pie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj53HT4vZZV2F3YOwLtrPKHrCQbTaC3zFbrrhszy-OOpVyE90Ki9Jz06okHGYAlZcyRD4CwHiO-iFEWBABtnch6UQTNTnOcLwNJGgSCxVMac6rPrO99Av0WTneW1K5ISE-WTicCvd2MnkQj/s1600/pie.jpg" /></a></div>
The original recipe comes from <a href="http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/favorite-banana-cream-pie" target="_blank">A Taste of Home</a> but as I went along, I made a few changes.<br />

It's a question that you may hear a lot in the next few days as Lent begins today. <br />
<br />
I was reading an article on Lent the other day that made me take a step back. It basically said if you want to change your body, you might want to give up wine, candy, coffee... But if you want to change your heart, a bigger fast is needed. <br />
<br />
Pope Francis in his annual Lenten message wrote "indifference to our neighbor and to God also represents a real temptation for us Christians. Each year during Lent we need to hear once more the voice of the prophets who cry out and trouble our conscience." We tend to focus too much on ourselves and forget about others. He called this the <i>globalization of indifference. </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
He also said "whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor. God's voice is no longer heard, the quiet joy of his love is no longer felt and the desire to do good fades. We end up being incapable of feeling compassion at the outcry of the poor, weeping for other people's pain, and feeling a need to help them, as though all this was someone else's responsibility and not our own." <br />
<br />
If we choose to fast from this indifference, turn this Lenten season away from ourselves, and focus on the compassion, the poor and the desire to help others, then we will learn how to <i>truly love </i>as Christ loves us. The fast in turn becomes the feast.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So this Lenten season, I am going to f<i>ast on the indifference towards others. </i>When my focus falls back on myself, I will heed the powerful hymnal words knowing that "it is well with my soul". I will remind myself that everything is well with me.....and I will turn the focus back on my fast. I think I will be singing this hymn quite a bit this month.... :)<br />

My motivation is low, my creativity suffers and I just plain ole feel bad. I need the sun. I need to get out of the house and I need to get moving!<br />
<br />
With that being said, I've been looking at my house and realize that I need to reorganize. So, I've been a little obsessed with baskets lately. Baskets are a great way to bring the outdoors in and add some new decor to the house. And, they are relatively inexpensive. Take a look at some of the options that are out there to use baskets...<br />

<br />
Take a bag of brussel sprouts, rinse, cut in half and toss lightly with olive oil and sea salt. Place on a pan and roast at 400 for about 25 min. Stir occasionally so they don't burn. While they are roasting, make your pasta.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoo0SF9uau0kQg9gaL6aqhvq_D12ywSqaF_pMldKP8xgaeNm5hLUmXcuFnSgOpC4tO_r5Y5j0nGkR4nK2aGgfedIChuXZOf1PEPMDcqMErxEXhJSq_Qu9ofxsu7tpLB5PARIa6BJ9ghBYR/s1600/brussel-sprouts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoo0SF9uau0kQg9gaL6aqhvq_D12ywSqaF_pMldKP8xgaeNm5hLUmXcuFnSgOpC4tO_r5Y5j0nGkR4nK2aGgfedIChuXZOf1PEPMDcqMErxEXhJSq_Qu9ofxsu7tpLB5PARIa6BJ9ghBYR/s320/brussel-sprouts.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
While your pasta is cooking, in a large pan saute your favorite sausage. Drain the grease. When done, add your pasta and 3/4 cup of pesto to your sausage. I bought this jar at Costco. I have learned to keep a jar of pesto on hand because it can make a meal real quick when you are tired and don't really want to make dinner. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6_NlygLHgD_xtNGhI9Ke2PaD-imj8I5WvBxDbM8QQjNrYjCQLgBqynL_U1wAT4r_sPiEczXiuKJPJowXJ-TEu-LICV-Kztj_uQ2Dw00LVjA1rL502f9DrIyIwwldPgAIhmGLN1H_6YYQ/s1600/IMG_4319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6_NlygLHgD_xtNGhI9Ke2PaD-imj8I5WvBxDbM8QQjNrYjCQLgBqynL_U1wAT4r_sPiEczXiuKJPJowXJ-TEu-LICV-Kztj_uQ2Dw00LVjA1rL502f9DrIyIwwldPgAIhmGLN1H_6YYQ/s320/IMG_4319.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mix it all together and then add your brussel sprouts. (I always reserve a little bit of pasta water when cooking these dishes to add in case the mixture is a little too sticky.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPiS9SfFd0teQNptvas78Zh_aje-N5hF1uc3iO-OoVKOKvZExzoH3yHZ81Adf80cAx74A3iWnhO_33Q5Ah70dAqQFAZ4kcm89Lsl-55dMlWQuj7-iGwBwqCtIuwhXVBN7I_-N_4-jWQQrL/s1600/IMG_5105.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPiS9SfFd0teQNptvas78Zh_aje-N5hF1uc3iO-OoVKOKvZExzoH3yHZ81Adf80cAx74A3iWnhO_33Q5Ah70dAqQFAZ4kcm89Lsl-55dMlWQuj7-iGwBwqCtIuwhXVBN7I_-N_4-jWQQrL/s400/IMG_5105.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Serve this with some grated pecorino romano cheese, a side salad and you are ready to go. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This turned out to be so good. My husband actually said it might be one of his favorite pasta dishes! See, dinner doesn't have to be difficult. Pasta, sausage, pesto, brussel sprouts.....you are good to go!</div>
