Do You Have Honor?

Honor.

Webster defines "honor" as:  respect that is given to someone who is admired; good reputation; good quality or character as judged by other people; high moral standards of behavior. Honor is a pretty big word - especially if it is a word you claim to live by.

I don't usually walk around thinking about whether I am 'honorable' or not.  I typically think of honor in regards to our military as they put their lives on the line for us.  Or a judge...honorably presiding over court.  And yes, I like to think I honor my mother and father.

But what about honor in our daily lives?  Are we building people up or tearing people down? If we easily find fault in other people and look for reasons to discredit them ....are we acting with honor?  If we talk negatively and gossip about others, do we demonstrate honor?  What about the ease in which we judge people?  Many claim that they are honorable and they hold themselves high in this wonderful self proclaimed definition.  But without demonstrating the true meaning of the word in all circumstances, by looking at and judging yourself first.......you don't have it.

I like the words of George Shaw above. When attempting something difficult or new, I think there is honor in trying. I'm sad that so many people today would rather condemn the mistakes of others rather than find honor and support in their attempts.

I wish we spent more time honoring each other and the imperfectness that lives in each of us. Maybe if we treated small mistakes with honor instead of judgement, great things would come to light.

Do you have honor?

Stylish Chairs On A Budget

Some of the cutest chairs I have seen lately are chairs that have been repurposed.  Chairs that have meaning or good form but don't really fit into your style today.... can be made to fit into your style with a little bit of paint, creativity and patience. And, it doesn't have to cost a lot. Some repurposed chairs make the best accent pieces in a room because they tell a story.

If you are looking for new ideas for an old chair and want to see what others have done with theirs, turn to Hometalk.  This is a great website to give you ideas and inspiration on just about anything involving your home.  There are great "how to" videos and step by step instructions on how to complete different projects.  To view the chairs featured above just click on Stylish Seating On A Budget.

Don't throw out that old chair in your garage.  Give it a new life!

Happy Wedesday!

The Lost Art of Thank You

Thank you.

Two simple words that carry so much meaning with them.  Two words that extend gratitude and appreciation for efforts put forth by another. Two words that mean so much yet today are used so little.  The ability to show appreciation and say thank you, has become an unappreciated way of life.

A manner that we were all taught as pre-schoolers has fallen by the wayside.  When was the last time you actually sat down and wrote out a "thank you" note?  (I'm not talking about email or a quick text here).  I'm talking about actually pulling out a pen and writing a note....  A true thank you, can make such a difference.  If you are a thank you writer....then you know the power that comes with this small effort.  You understand its importance and take the time to appreciate it.

What about the gifts you or your children receive for birthdays, graduation, holidays..... Does a thank you note follow?  Sadly, for some, a written "thank you" never follows and that is well, that is just pretty sad.  If someone has spent the time to find you a special something or have thought of you in a special way, don't they deserve a quick note to show your appreciation?  If we are so busy that we can't pen out a sincere note of thanks - then something is wrong.  What about a thank you note for someone that hosts a party, for being a friend, or noting a special effort by someone?  You know, those efforts where you don't receive a tangible gift, but you receive something in return. What has happened to our manners? Our thought or intention may be there, but it gets put on the back burner or ends up at the bottom of our to-do list.

Words have a lasting impression.  Similarly, the lack of words have their own lasting impression.

Buy a pack of "thank you" notes and keep them close at hand.  Start using them.  You will be amazed at the power of their simplicity and the impact of these two simple words.

Thank you for stopping by.  :)

Happy Tuesday.
