Perfectly Healthy Pancakes

With summer over, many of us are thankful for the routine of the school year to help us get our workout's back on track.  Maybe it's time for you to create a new workout plan or just plain begin one.  Whatever your routine may be, cutting out white flour and sugar should be on the top of your list.  If you haven't made the switch yet to get off of unprocessed foods, now is a good time to start.  Even if you say you can't give them up, try eating less of them and see if you start to feel better.  I bet you will notice a big difference after just one week!
My sister-in-law Julie knows that I am always on the hunt for healthy new recipes.  She called the other day to tell me about a new recipe for pancakes.  This is super easy (bonus right?) and taste delicious. You may not even notice that the flour and sugar are missing....

Take 2 bananas, 4 eggs, a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of baking powder.  Blend it up and pour into a greased skillet.  Flip when ready! (they are a little more delicate than a regular pancake so be gentle flipping). You can also half this recipe if it is just you eating.

Use pure maple sugar and you are good to go.  I forgot to take a picture after I poured the syrup but you get the point here :).

Remember, trying to eliminate foods from your diet and trying to eat in a different way can be hard.  You have to make things that keep you going and this is one of those dishes. You'll feel like you just went to ihop! (Well, not exactly.  You won't feel sick afterwards!)

Happy Hump Day.

What Paint Do You Use?

Do I use other paint besides Annie Sloan Chalk paint? The answer is pretty simple.  I have and do on occasion......but I don't really like to.
Painting for me is fun.  I enjoy it. Painting furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and then going back to a latex paint is hard. I find that I don't enjoy my paint time with latex.  I recently ran out of ASCP in white and turned to a can of white latex that I had. I was only using the white in a small area so I didn't think it would be a big deal. The coverage, smell and dry time was totally different.  When I went to distress the piece, the latex paint peeled and created a mess (latex is the wrong paint for distressing).  I forgot how easy and simple chalk paint is to use.  So I ran out and bought a can of pure white and happily finished my piece.

The color palette is another reason that I like ASCP.  The colors are so pretty and your options are endless.  I have yet to come up with a project, where one of her colors doesn't work.

A lot of people think that you have to distress and make your pieces look old and worn with ASCP.  You can make beautiful hand painted pieces without distressing if that is your choice. Without having to sand, prime and prep your piece, why not use a great paint with great colors that gives you a great finish? And, it takes half the time to complete.

Favorite colors?  I mainly use old white, paris grey, french linen, country grey and duck egg.  I try to stick to neutral colors that allow pieces the freedom to move from room to room.

Do I always wax?  Yes.  I don't like the feel of chalk paint unfinished.  It reminds me of a chalk board and I don't like the chalk feel.  I love using the clear wax.  I rub it on, buff it and it's a smooth as glass. I don't always use the dark wax.  This is a personal preference and some pieces just don't need it.

So do I use other paints? Not unless I have to.  :)

Hope you are having a great week.

Good Bye Summer

Labor Day is sometimes met with mixed feelings.  It marks the end of summer.  It says goodbye to lazy days on the beach and anticipated summer vacations with family and friends.

I welcome Labor Day and all that she brings with her.  I look forward to the whisper of cooler days, the onset of leaves changing and the hint of smoke in the air. I am ready for football and basketball season to start and ready to pull out my jeans and boots.  Who doesn't love pulling on that first sweater and curling up with a warm drink by the fire?  At this point in time, I'm ready for fall and ready to say good bye to summer.
Hello September!
